Malcesine
Malcesine is located in the Veneto region, about 50 km far from Verona, on the coast of Lake Garda. River Aril, which flows through the town, is long only 175 metres and is considered the shortest river in the world. The enchanting panorama has fascinated many famous people in the past. Nowadays tourists have at their disposal a great variety of hotels, restaurants and pensioni (small inns or guest houses). Every year Malcesine is visited by many tourists. Among the main architectural buildings there are the Scaligero Castle, the Museum of Natural History, the Palazzo dei Capitani (Palace of the Captains), the old Pieve di Santo Stefano (Santo Stefano parish church), the Church of Madonna della Fontana, the Church of Saint Benigno and Caro, called the Disciplina, the Church of Saint Nicolò and Rocco in the Port Square, the Church of S. Zeno in Monte and the Church of S. Maria di Navene. Malcesine is also renowned for the production of olive oil. Several traditional events are organized, such as those in honour of Saint Benigno and Caro, and the ancient Triduo, a prayer for the souls of Purgatory, in February. You can reach Malcesine by plane (Catullo Airport), by train or by ferry boat (on lake Garda).
