Cesenatico
Cesenatico was formerly an old fishermen hamlet but today the heart of the city centres on the port-channel built around 1300. At the beginning of the 1500s the great Leonardo Da Vinci, working for Cesare Borgia or rather Duke Valentino, improved the port structure and extended the docks capacity. Nowadays there are several popular restaurants along the port-channel, that are renowned for their fish and seafood dishes. On the port-channel you can also find the Floating Museum of Marine History with its colourful sails. Cesenatico tourist resort is also popular for the sea and beaches, nightclubs, entertainment and the countless chances to practise all kinds of sports. The city is also full of green areas that can be enjoyed by both residents and tourists, of course. For those not very fond of the beach, it is possible to go to the Levante (East) and Ponente (West) parks that offer ideal places to sunbathe far from the usually crowded beaches. The Levante park covers 40 ha of lawn and trees typical of the sea areas; there are stone pines, poplars, alders and oaks among others. The park includes 2 ponds with swans, ducks, moorhens and a lot of fish species Thanks to the rich fauna it has been possible to create bird-watching stations. The park also offers exercise facilities and nature trails. The Ponente park located near Zadin covers 17 hectares. It is full of trees and there are 2 football fields, picnic areas, playgrounds, cycle paths and walking trails and a motocross track for BMX and Mountain Bike lovers. Several traditional celebrations and concerts that attract tourists and residents are organised in Summer. Furthermore, Cesenatico has stood out for its concern over environmental problems and the respect for Nature. Therefore, by passing some regulations, the comune (town council) invites residents and tourists to show respect and care for the environment. In fact, in recognition of its protecting green areas, the city of Cesenatico has been awarded the remarkable Blue Flag by the European Community.
