Bagno di Romagna

Bagno di Romagna is a municipality of the Forlì-Cesena Province, with a population of around 6,000 inhabitants. It lies in the Savio Valley at about 500 m asl. The first human traces date back to the Bronze Age, but it is thanks to the Romans that the area became famous and prosperous. The area was destroyed by the Goths during the invasions following the fall of the Roman Empire and it took several centuries before regaining the ancient splendour. Starting from the 14th century, the area became very important because it is considered the gateway to Romagna for people coming from Tuscany and Umbria regions. The main artistic and architectural attractions in Bagno di Romagna are the wonderful Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, with its renowned bell tower of 40 m high, and the Palazzo del Capitano (Captain's Palace), the ancient seat of the representatives of the Florentine government. Visitors cramming the first-class hotels and restaurants in Bagno di Romagna are attracted by the presence of its famous spas. The town is surrounded by magnificent and unspoilt woods and the city is the main centre of the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna (National Park of Casentinesi Woods, Mount Falterona and Campigna).
