Roseto degli Abruzzi

The numerous archaeological findings show that the territory of current Roseto degli Abruzzi was already inhabited in the Roman Age. In the past, Roseto was called Rosburgo (town of roses) and at the beginning of the 20th century the town became a fashionable and renowned seaside resort. Today, Roseto degli Abruzzi is the main seaside resort of the Abruzzese Riviera and it attracts many tourists thanks to its beautiful sea and beaches. Tourists can choose from various accommodation facilities such as hotels, guest houses, residences, campsites and tourist villages. Roseto offers also numerous sports facilities such as a sports hall, countless tennis courts (also indoor), bowls courts and a swimming pool. In the centre of the town, there is the Arena 4 Palme (Four Palm Trees Arena) where you can play basketball, the game that made Roseto famous all over the world. Another attraction is an olive tree which is 500 years old and a barrel which is considered to be the biggest one in all Europe. During the summer, many cultural events such as theatrical events, cinema and musical festivals are organised in the municipal villa. Roseto degli Abruzzi has a population of 24,000 inhabitants, extending on a surface area of 52 square km representing a density of 417 inhabitants per square kilometre.
