Livigno
Livigno is a small village located in Valtellina, in North Italy, bordering Switzerland,. Livigno extends along a valley with many lodges and accommodation facilities, where many shops of every kind can be found. Apart from being well-known by ski-lovers, Livigno is also a duty-free area, therefore shopping is another added value factor for this village. There are 115 km of ski and snowboard runs for everyone, characterised by their width, the capacity and the easiness to be beaten thanks to the absence of vegetation along the slopes. Thus, skiing there is really safe. This spot also offers 40 km of cross-country skiing trails to cater for all tastes according to the technique used. For Snowboarders, there are 70 sqkm of runs and for the experts, a well equipped snow park with a half-pipe and a jump, which completely satisfies the demands of those who love the thrill of riding the board. Due to its particular configuration, Livigno is subdivided into areas: Teola, Molin, Rin da Rin, Pemont, Forcola, Florin, Santa Maria, Downtown and San Rocco, being the downtown (San Antonio), San Rocco and the parish areas of Santa Maria and Teola the most well-known locations. Livigno downtown (San Antonio) practically spreads out in a main street which has now become a pedestrian area due to the numerous Hotels. Hotelkeepers issue their guests permits for riding a car in the area. It is always downtown which has the highest concentration of shops of all kinds. Moreover, the city hall, the post office, the main banks and Livigno oldest historical Hotel are also located there. However, the parish church, the sports club, the cinema, the schools and even the ice circuit for car racing are all located North of downtown, in Santa Maria area. On the other hand, San Rocco area, which is slightly at a higher altitude than downtown, is located in the South of the village, opposite the Swiss border. The place has an ice rink which, during the warm season, becomes a tennis court. There are the Kolodì disco, the Carosello 3000 cableway and the Emergency Care Centre as well. Going South is the Forcola pass, open only in summer. Last but not least, Teola is the youngest of the areas, where lodges and the hotels with the most beds in Livigno are found. Teola area is located next to the entrance of the ski runs and the slope of Mottolino. Livigno in numbers: Livigno is located at 1816 metres above sea level and has 5,230 inhabitants.
