Sanremo

Sanremo, a Ligurian comune (municipality) in the province of Imperia, is an appreciated tourist resort, mainly known for the traditional flower cultivation, for being the host city of the Italian Music Festival, for its historical Casino and the sport tournaments held here. Its typical geographical location makes weather in Sanremo particularly temperate, so much so that the city is chosen as a tourist destination in both winter and summer. The origins of the city date back to the Palaeolithic, even though the area truly developed in Roman times. It passed under the Genoese protectorate in the middle Ages and it was annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia during the post-Napoleonic Restoration. In Sanremo tourist may find several architectural and cultural attractions; special attention should be given to the Borea d’Olmo Palace, Villa Nobel, Villa Ormond, Saint Siro’s Basilica, the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Costa (Our Lady of the Coast), the Russian Orthodox Church and the Devanchan Castle. Among the shows that most lure tourists to pack the luxurious inns and excellent restaurants, we can mention the Milan-Sanremo cycling competition, the International Minigolf Trophy, the Topolino Golf Trophy, Fiori di Fuoco (firework international contest), Rally Sanremo- a round of the World Rally Championship-, and the Tenco Prize, a song contest for singer-songwriters.
