Rovereto
Rovereto, a comune (municipality) with about 35,000 inhabitants in the province of Trento, is the main urban centre of Val Lagorina. The local economy obtains considerable resources from cultural tourism. The artistic attractions of the area, among which the MART- one of the most important European museums of contemporary art- is worth mentioning, are internationally renowned. Other important places of historical interest in Rovereto are the Castel Dante Ossuary Dome, a striking military monument, the War Museum, with its many war items and artefacts of the Great War, and the Accademia Roveretana degli Agiati, an imposing testimony of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The famous house where philosopher Antonio Rosmini was born, the colossal Campana dei Caduti (a fallen heroes memorial), the world largest bell, the impressive Hermitage of San Colombano, near the Leno valley, and the fossil footprints of some dinosaurs in the Lavini di Marco area are particularly appreciated by holidaymakers and visitors. The East West Festival, the International Review of Archaeological Cinema, the Palio Città della Quercia competition and the International motor sports gathering are among the events that every year highly motivate thousands of tourists to cram restaurants, hotels, inns and bed & breakfasts in Rovereto.
