Praiano
Praiano is a municipality of around 2,000 inhabitants in the Salerno province and is one of the most renowned resorts of the Amalfi Coast. The main economic resource is tourism. Marina di Praia, lying on a rock overlooking the sea, boasts a crystal-blue sea and sunny beaches that attract many tourists from all over the world. Visitors can choose among a wide variety of accommodation facilities such as hotels, inns, residences, restaurants and bed-and-breakfasts. Praiano derives probably from praia, meaning beach, whose fishing and sea tradition dates back to ancient times. The whole area is extremely picturesque and visitors can find the best tourist facilities along with a wonderful natural landscape. Well renowned sites are the little towns of Vettica Maggiore and the Vallone di Furore gorge. Among the most important folkloristic events there are the famous Luminaria di San Domenico (a traditional procession with torches), the typical religious festivities in honour of Saint Luca, patron of the town, and the famous Notte dei Coralli and the Festival della Tradizione. Praiano was awarded with the remarkable "four sails" prize by Legambiente and is listed in the Guida Blu. It is located at only 10 km from Positano, one of the most renowned tourist seaside resorts on the Tyrrhenian Coast.
