Asti, Alessandria, Torino, Novara, Verbania, Biella, Cuneo, and Vercelli: these are the seven Provinces which make up the Piemonte Region, the Italian Region where sport, art, and nature find their ideal environment.
Amongst the castles, one cannot but mention the Castello di Camino, a really enchanted castle thanks to the uncontaminated nature that surrounds it, Castello di Costigliole d'Asti, Castello di Grinzane Cavour, one of the oldest, Castello di Serralunga d'Alba, and Castello di Masino which is owned by the FAI.
Numerous are also the museums, above all in the Regions capital city Torino: Museo delle antichità Egizie, Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino, Museo Nazionale della Montagna "Duca degli abruzzi", and the Fondazione Merz where one can admire examples of modern art, and the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences.
For those who particularly love those museums that have been generously created by mother Nature, the Lago Maggiore is a good place to visit and where one can find some of the historical residences which are surrounded by marvellous botanical gardens. Another example are the Parks and Natural Reserves like the Gran Paradiso and the Val Grande.
Numerous are the Alpine Lakes which, in every season, attract both Italian and foreign tourists: there are 300 in the area of Cuneo alone, and another 100 or so along the Alpine arch.
During the summer it is possible to go hiking, kayaking, or hydrospeeding in the Valle Stura or Val Sesia; one can practice water skiing on Lake maggiore, Lake Mergozzo, and Lake Orta.
In the winter, as well as skiing in one of the 53 skiing stations in the Piemonte Region, it is possible to reach the glaciers in Valsusa or Valsesia, and try one's hand at heliskiing.
After so much sport, one can enjoy a bath in the spa's of Agliano Terme (Asti), Acqui Terme (Alessandria), Bognanco e Crodo (Verbano Cusio Ossola), and Garessio, Lurisia, Valieri, and Vinadio (Cuneo).
In general all the hotels in the Piemonte Region offer maps and guides illustrating all the seasonal sports, events, and other information which can be useful during one's holiday.
Also convenient is the Torino+Piemonte Card, a card which gives one the right to discounts and which is to be found in the Tourist Offices of Turin and its Provinces.
