Piacenza

Piacenza, capital city of the homonymous province in the Emilia Romagna region, has a population of 100,000 inhabitants. As it is located right at the border between the regions of Emilia Romagna and Lombardy, it is economically and culturally influenced by Milan, the capital city of Lombardy. Piacenza is geographically located on the right bank of the Po River, in the Po Valley. The Trebbia River on the West and the Nure River on the East are tributaries of the Po. The Southern area of the city is dominated by the fascinating Colli Piacentini, hills that used to be strategic military positions in earlier times. Apart from being one of the main destinations chosen by those who love local cooking specialties, Piacenza is also considered a city with an important art tradition due to the artistic and cultural heritage in the area. Among the impressive architectural attractions are the numerous noble palaces such as the Palazzo Mulazzani or the Palazzo Scotti, which houses the Museum of Natural History, the Palazzo Landi, built in medieval times and the Palazzo Costa, built by order of Lombard masters at the end of the XV century. Nowadays, it houses the Court. In the historical quarter, the private gardens within the palaces mentioned above are favourite tourist destinations chosen by those who enjoy being in contact with Nature. Other places of interest include the Palazzo Communale (Town Hall) and the Palazzo Farnese, the Duomo (Cathedral) and the churches of St. Francis and St. Savino, the Museum of Natural History and the "Ricci Oddi" Gallery of Modern Art
