Ostuni, a Puglian comune (municipality) in the province of Brindisi, extends along the three hilltops of the Murge, less than 10 km from the Adriatic coastline; the local economy draws its resources from tourism and the vibrant agribusiness, especially due to crops for oil and wine production. The zone, already populated in the Middle Palaeolithic Age, suffered different dominations between 1200 and 1500- Normandy, Lecce, Taranto and Bare. Afterwards, it went under the Spanish domination since the second half of the 16th century. The picturesque panorama offered by the nearby Marina di Ostuni, which alternates between golden beaches and jagged rock-cliffs, is one of the greatest boosts of Puglian seaside tourism. The local architectural and urban attractions, present especially in the most ancient quarter, full of the famous typical white cottages and the charming Anjou surrounding city walls are also very important: the splendid Cathedral, built in the 15th century stands out as the best example of Puglian late gothic buildings. Among the characteristic Ostuni folk events worth mentioning are the Sagra dei Vecchi Tempi (Old times festival), the San Biagio Festival and the San Oronzo Procession. Finally, many places of interest of the nearby surrounding comunes are particularly appreciated, like the ruins of the ancient Carbina in Carovigno and the imposing Castle of Ceglie Messapico.
