Made up of just two Provinces: Isernia and Campobasso, this last being the capital: this is the Molise Region, prevalently hilly and mountainous, it is the destination for both winter and summer holidays.
The very few flat parts are to be found at the feet of the hills and mountains and often, in winter, they become locations dedicated to cross country skiing: the flatlands of Bojano, Larino, Venafro, Campitello Matese (famous skiing station), and Valle Fiorita, together with the high mountains of Colle Petroso, Colle Miletto, and Matese.
Amongst the protected areas and the natural reserves, as well as the famous Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, one can find the Oasis of Bosco Casale and the Natural Oasis of Guardiaregia, the natural reserves of Montedimezzo, Pesche, and Collemeluccio.
Two lakes make the landscape more precious: Lake Occhitto and Lake Gardafiera.
As well as the turist locations like Campitello Matese and Capracotta, chosen above all as winter destinations by those who wish to spend a pleasant week on the snow in various types of receptive structures, rooms and hotels in the Molise Region, one can also find renowned seaside towns: Termoli, Campomarino, Isole Tremiti, Montenero, and Petacciato.
Among the minor localities that deserve a mention and a visit: the medieval Agnone, the Roman Sepino, Tufara, and San Pietro Avellana.
There is also a great variety of typical products, firstly the sweets or desserts, cold meats, truffles, cicerchiata, and sweet pizza which are all often the protagonists of the various town festivals which are organised in all seasons and where numerous tourists flock to satisfy their love of good quality food.
