There are some beautiful islands: Gallinara, Begeggi, Tino, and Tinetto, all close to the coastline and easily reached thanks to the shuttle services that leave from the ports of the main cities such as Genova, La Spezia, and Savona. Also to be appreciated are the protected marine reserves, Portofino and Cinque Terre, the marine parks in Gallinara and Bergeggi, the cetacean sanctuary, and the famous aquarium in Genova.
Numerous are the natural parks: Regional Natural Park of Beigua, Regional Natural Park of Bric Tana, Regional Natural Reserve of the Gallinara Island, Regional Natural Park of Porto Venere, Regional Natural Reserve of Rio Torsero, and others.
The Liguria Region is not only sea. The hinterland - to be visited: the beautiful grotto's of Borgio Verezzi in the Province of Savona), and the scenery that the Liguria Regions mountains offer are particularly evocative: Val d'Aveto is ideal for winter sports, Mount Penna and Maggiorasca for hiking excursions, and many others.
The Liguria Region also offers historical and cultural pathways to follow and which cross villa's, gardens, religious buildings, castles like the castle of Pietra di Vobbia, and fortresses like those in Sarzana, Castruccio, Castracani, Firmafede, and the Doria fortress in Portovenere.
