Lignano Sabbiadoro has 6 theme parks, bike paths, horse riding centres, sports facilities and a 18-hole golf course. There is also a leisure port that houses about 5,000 yachts. Lignano became a tourist resort after the Second World War and the first tourist facilities were built around the beginning of the 20th century when Lignano could be reached only by boat from the Marano Lagoon. In that period the peninsula was covered by a pine forest and in 1903, the first bathing establishment and a hotel were built. In 1926 was built the first municipal road that linked Lignano to Latisana. Marcello d'Olivo designed the redevelopment plan of Lignano Pineta.
