Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast, or Costiera Amalfitana, is a stretch of coastline of the Sorrentine Peninsula, in the heart of the Salerno Gulf. The area, declared world heritage site by UNESCO, derives its name from Amalfi, the most important town in the area, both from a geographical and historical point of view. The local economy is mainly based on tourism and offers many accommodation facilities crammed every year with tourists and visitors from all over the world. All those people who had the chance to spend their holidays in the marvellous hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, guest houses, restaurants and villas of the Amalfi Coast can easily understand why this part of Italy is one of the most appreciated and visited areas by sun and sea lovers. Among the main architectural and artistic attractions of the Amalfi Coast there are the famous Cathedral with the adjacent Chiostro Paradiso (Cloister) in Amalfi; the beautiful Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta in Positano, the wonderful Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo in Ravello, the typical Chiesa di San Luca and San Gennario in Praiano and the enchanting Villa Romana in Minori. Not to be missed are also the tourist resorts of Vietri sul Mare, Tramonti, Maiori, Conca dei Marmi and Cetara.
