Agrigento

About 4 kilometres from the historic centre of Agrigento and 2 from The Valley of the Temples, there is the house where the world wide famous Agrigentine dramatist Luigi Pirandello was born.

Although Agrigento patron saint is San Gerlando, every year the city holds a celebration in honour of San Calogero. This festivity is, perhaps, unique in the world- 8 days of celebrations (from the first to the second Sunday of July) that mix mysticism, old traditions, legends and a deep Christian faith, brimming with an energy impossible to describe in words.

San Leone is undoubtedly the best-known and most visited seaside resort of Agrigento province. The "Falcone e Borsellino" coastline with its tall palm trees invites to take a relaxing walk. There are nightclubs where to dance or talk the night away.

The archaeological museum of Agrigento opened in June 1970 and at present is one of the most visited places in the Valley of the Temples. It is located very close to the Hellenistic-Romanic district and a hundred metres from the “Via Sacra” (sacred road) where the monumental Doric temples are erected.
